“Where’s Ray”  A Fundraising Campaign

June 29, 2009

Week 2 – Oregon to Idaho
Character Counts! Kent County is pleased to share an update of Ray Tarrach’s fundraising bike ride.  Speaking from Kah-Nee-Ta, Oregon, Mr. Tarrach stated that the ride goes well and that the scenery is beautiful.

His ride through St. Helens, OR proved difficult.  The climb through the mountains was 5,150 feet up.  The scenery along the Columbia River was breathtaking.  Ray said that morning temperatures average 45 degrees, rising to 90 degrees by 1:00 PM.  On day three, Ray had a flat tire.  In order to see photos of Ray fixing the damage please go to cckentmd.org.  Click on “Where’s Ray”.  Next, go to “Daily Team Journal”.  Lastly, choose “Day 3” to see Mr. Tarrach.

The next stops on Ray’s journey through Oregon are Prineville, John Day, Baker City and Ontario.  In Idaho he will go through Boise and Mountain Home.  By July 1, he will have traveled 663 miles, with 2,976 miles remaining.

Character Counts! Kent County encourages the entire community to rally its support for Mr. Tarrach’s efforts.  Parents especially should involve their children in this exciting trip.  Mr. Tarrach’s example demonstrates the value of respect.  Ray is one rider in a group of 51.  He understands that he must treat the other members of the team like he would like to be treated in order for all members of the team to succeed.

We can all follow Mr. Tarrach’s journey also listening to WCTR 1530 AM each Wednesday morning at 7:45 AM.  The total miles to be accomplished are 3,639.  He has 2,976 miles remaining.

Ray is undertaking this ride to support Character Counts! Kent County.  Please consider donating $20 to Character Counts! Kent County.  Your $20 gift will provide character education lessons for one student for an entire school year.  Our goal is to provide these lessons for 1,700 students.  Donations by check can be mailed to Character Counts! Kent County, 215 Washington Avenue, Chestertown, MD 21620, or you can donate through this website to donate on line.  Go Ray!
