The Joseph & Edna Josephson Institute of Ethics — a nonprofit and nonpartisan teaching organization based in Los Angeles, California — established CHARACTER COUNTS! and organized its Coalition in 1993.

Character Counts Kent County (CCKC), an independent non-profit organization, is a longstanding member of the National Character Counts Coalition. The National Character Counts Coalition’s 850 member organizations and thousands of affiliated schools reach more than 7 million youth and their families. The National Character Counts Coalition provides an educational framework and training programs to member organizations.

As a member of the National Character Counts Coalition, CCKC must still fund and run its own program and activities. CCKC is dependent on support from private donors and the community in order to provide current programming for students.

Since 1996, Character Counts Kent County (CCKC) has been affiliated with Character Counts Midshore. To maintain the long-term sustainability of the Kent County program, CCKC established a separate advisory board and program director in 2006. With over 3,075 cumulative annual volunteer hours, CCKC is able to provide a form of character education for approximately 2,200 Kent County Students each school year.

CCKC is the leading character education program in our Kent County area local schools and community. CCKC’s program is centered on core values known as The Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

CCKC provides the educational tools and support to community volunteers who desire to make a difference in the lives of children in their schools and communities. The CCKC program is implemented by our community volunteers, known to their students as Character Coaches.
