CC!KC Students Send Holiday Cheer to Our Troops

In the next couple weeks troops in Afghanistan will be receiving cards, candy and other goods from CC!KC students. As part of the November 11th Character Counts lesson “count your blessings”, students in many Elementary school classes worked with their Character Coaches to make cards and gather small gifts for our troops.

Crystal Killen, a Character Coach and Dixon Valve employee, organized the creation of a special addition to help add a bit of holiday cheer to the regular care package she and other Dixon Valve employees send to their colleague, James Bianco, who is currently stationed in Afghanistan. In the next care package James receives he will find the pictured basket full of cards and well wishes from our Kent County students for him to enjoy and share with fellow troops.

Thank you CC!KC students for helping to spread holiday cheer to those of us who won’t be able to make it home for the holidays. This time of year we are often reminded that the small things we do for others are the things that can make a big difference.

2013 TV Raffle for Character Winner Announced

The winner of the 2013 TV Raffle for Character was selected on November 23rd at the Second Annual Turkey Trail Trot for Character event. Trevor Donophan, this years lucky winner, was present at the event to celebrate his big win.

Trevor has been involved with the Character Counts program for quite some time as a Character Coach at HH Garnett Elementary School. We were excited to have Trevor enter the 5K event on Saturday and even more thrilled when his name was drawn as the winner of the TV raffle. I don’t think anyone at the event was more surprised than Trevor was when his name was called. We hope you enjoy your brand new 55″ Flat Screen Samsung TV!

We would like to thank everyone who purchased a ticket towards this years raffle, your support of the CC!KC program is  greatly appreciated. Without the support and dedication of our great Kent County Community, CC!KC would not be where it is today.

Chestertown Spy Interview with Executive Director Mrs. Madhu Sidhu

DSC_0024The Chestertown Spy interviewed CC!KC Executive Director, Mrs. Madhu Sidhu this week, in “Five Question for Character Counts! Directer Madhu Sidhu”.

Madhu spoke from the heart about the popularity of the upcoming Turkey Trail Trot for Character event. The root of our success, she says is in the cause, “our community has wholeheartedly embraced CC!KC and our goals of character education.”

It is evident to us that the community wants to participate and wants to be involved in supporting the CC!KC cause and we can see that in the number of people who have signed up to volunteer and registered to run or walk.

On everyone’s mind for the event, will anyone be able to run faster than last years event winning runner Steve Wheeler?

Coaches compete in 5k obstacle course

Justine Franzen and Joyce Wood, second grade Character Counts! coaching partners at Garnett Elementary School, recently participated in the opening weekend 5K extreme obstacle course competition at Max Tracks in Easton, Maryland. According to Joyce the hardest obstacle of the course was the running. The course, a former dirt bike track, challenged participants with hills and difficult terrain. Justine and Joyce are among many others who have turned to obstacle course 5K competitions to satisfy their need for new experiences and challenges. Their goal for the race was not competitive; instead it was to have fun and to enjoy the challenges of the experience. Way to go coaches!

Coaches in the Community

A team of Character Coaches and Dixon Valve employees recently completed the Savage Race Mid-Atlantic 2013 at Hopkin’s Game Farm in Kennedyville, Maryland. As a team, these coaches helped each other succeed the whole way, they worked together to tackle obstacles and offered encouragement and support to those who needed it. This team’s focus was to finish the race as a team and as they crossed the finish line together, they did just that. Way to go coaches!
